THE opening of the new Vodafone store in Mt Hagen, Western Highlands, has brought job opportunities and services to the province and people must be proud of that and ensure the mobile operator continues to provide a vital service to the community, a government official says.
Leo Mek, representing office of Governor Wai Rapa, said this during the opening of the first Vodafone store in Western Highlands and the Highlands on Friday. “Such an investment brings opportunity and the exposure for people into the digital world,” he said.
“Mt Hagen city is changing and such partnership and investment is the way forward.”
This is the eighth shop Vodafone opened since it’s launching on April 31 last year.
Vodafone’s Highlands branch manager Luke Poiya said the company’s aim was to provide a cheap and affordable network and services for the grassroots people.
“Our offers, rate and prices are reasonable and affordable for people from every class down to the grassroots level,” he said.
Vodafone PNG chief executive Danny Chew said the company was pleased to bring services and latest technology into the province and the region.
“We are here to connect those who are unconnected,” he said.
“In the 11 months of operation we already have a large number of customers here in Western Highlands.
“I believe our presence here will benefit the people, in terms of cheaper connection rates, bringing latest technology and exposure for Papua New Guineans.
“We look forward to creating partnerships with the provincial government and the people here and to extend telecommunication services.
“We are still a small business but we hope to expand to all provinces soon.”
