PEOPLE of East New Britain will be sharing their experience during the 1994 volcano eruptions during the Senior Disaster Officials’ Meeting in Kokopo next month.
The chairman of the organising committee, Gordon Gaius, said officials from the Apec economies would be in the province to see and feel East New Britain.
He said the province had been through a lot of disasters and it was fitting to have the meeting there.
“The disaster office has been identifying people such as in the resettlements areas of Gelegele and Sikut. We will bring them to the meetings to share their experiences on warnings, how they actually moved out of the disaster zones,” he said.
One the biggest disasters to happen in ENB was the 1994 twin volcano eruptions which forced many people to move away from Rabaul district and resettle in Kokopo.
