Our vote against Israel did not go down well with people

Letters
  • WHAT a betrayal against the heartland, Eretz Israel, the land that has given so much to the nations of the world through the holy scriptures and the message of the everlasting gospel of the kingdom.
Under the supreme rulership of the covenant keeping God of Israel forever, Papua New Guinea has every reason, both in heaven and on earth, to favour Zion from a biblical standpoint.
However, we have been made to lift up our hands against Israel, the apple of God’s eye. PNG has failed to give that birthright recognition to Yerushalayim as the eternal capital of the Jewish people.
Despite what the founding father of the nation did a decade ago when he cut a covenant with the God of Israel by pledging our support and allegiance for Israel, the vote against Jerusalem as the capital of Israel by the PNG government is an offence against heaven and the Jewish people, the world over.
What PNG said in the United Nations against Israel and the Jewish people has now exposed us as a nation in wolves’ skin (betrayer of the brethren).
Contrary to PNG’s foreign policy, you cannot fool the Jewish people and the PNG Christians.
I call upon Prime Minister Peter O’Neill as the head of the PNG government to overthrow the vote against Jerusalem because PNG has a spiritual and diplomatic relationship with Israel.

  •  PAPUA New Guinea’s relationship with Israel improved greatly over the past five years under the current government.
With the free visa arrangements for travels between the two countries and the number of technical assistances given by Israel, PNG tends to benefit immensely.
Also as a Christian country, PNG stands to reap the Abrahamic blessings: “I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.” (Gen 12:3).
It is therefore imperative for PNG to reciprocate in any way possible to show its appreciation to the Jewish nation.
What turned out at the recent United Nation vote to officially recognise Jerusalem as Israel’s capital was totally unbelievable and shocking.
PNG joined the bandwagon of countries which opposed United States President Donald Trump’s stand to move the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
We know too well the importance of Jerusalem to the Jews as well as to Christians.
The PNG vote against the move was a slap in the face and hypocritical to Israel when we claim to be their friend but did not have the guts to stand with them when they needed their friends.
Certainly the vote did not reflect the views of the majority of the population, especially the Christians here at home in PNG.
The sensible thing to have done was to have abstained if the government did not agree with the issue. And if that stand taken was the government’s view, then that was a total letdown to Israel.
Our government ought to apologies to the Israeli government. Otherwise recall the PNG ambassador to the UN and replace him with someone who is more experienced and knowledgeable about world issues.

  •  IT is a lame excuse from Foreign Affairs Minister Rimbink Pato, pictured, and the government to vote against the decision of United States President Donald Trump to recognise Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
Jerusalem has been the Jewish capital since time immemorial.
Both biblical and secular history records show that Jerusalem has been the seat of government for Jews since ancient time.
Trump is a brave and courageous leader to recognise that fact. Guatemala President Jimmy Morales, who is an evangelical Christian, has announced his government’s decision to follow the US and shift its embassy to Jerusalem.
May God bless them and the other seven nations which supported the US and Israel and voted against the UN resolution.
In my opinion, that as a strong Christian nation, PNG has failed miserably to take the opportunity to shine with nine other nations, including US and Israel, to recognise Jerusalem as the eternal capital of the Jews.
