NATIONAL Capital District (NCD)/Central commander Asst Comm Anthony Wagambie Jr wants all policemen to work with communities to uphold law and order.
“There have been too much negative publicity against the police force. Let us all do the right thing and refrain from doing the bad,” he added.
However, Wagambie said it was the few “bad apples” that had tarnished the image of the force.
“It is, thus, not difficult to change and repair the force’s image and regain public confidence.
“Just remain disciplined and refrain from doing wrong.
“Do not chew buai when you are on duty and in uniform. We are here to serve, not to be served,” he said at a graduation parade in the Boroko police station on Saturday.
“Let us all work towards transforming our socio-economic environment positively for communities and businesses so that we can retire in peace and harmony,” he added.
Wagambie said plans were underway to roll out sector patrols in the NCD to enhance police visibility and more effective crime prevention efforts.
“We will also synergise with MS (Mobile Squad) and the Dog Unit to support our zone operations in the city. These plans will go on trial in the next couple of weeks and we hope to find it effective and workable,” he added.
Wagambie also appealed to Papua New Guineans to stay out of trouble and to be “responsible citizens contributing to nation-building”.
“Individual attitude must change for the better. If there is no respect for law and order, there can be no positive progress for communities and country. We must all embrace and cherish peace and harmony.”
