ANTHONY Wagambie Jr is still assistant commissioner of police (ACP) for the National Capital District and Central command, says deputy commissioner of police, operations, Dr Philip Mitna.
Mitna explained last Friday, shortly after the transfer orders were released, that Wagambie would remain as ACP NCD and Central but will help the Office of the Commissioner to ensure Porgera is safe before the mine reopens.
Internal Security Minister Peter Tsiamalili Jr also said that Wagambie was appointed by the commissioner of police to help the Office of the Commissioner for special operations in Porgera “due to the current rank he wears, as well as the wealth of experience he has in operating in challenging environments and critical situations”.
“He is best placed to ensure the government security apparatus is established and strengthened to ensure the smooth recommencement of Porgera,” he said.
Kerema Police Station commander (PSC) Supt Michael Pakyei was transferred to the East Sepik police command and Chief Insp Timmeaus Koroda, the staff officer to ACP Highlands Eastern End, is now with the Northern police commander, and will report to their respective provincial police commanders.
