PAPUA New Guinea middleweight and light welterweight champion Douglas Walo says he remains focused on his bout against Australian John McLaughlin which is scheduled for October.
Organised by Oceania Fight Promotions, the event will see Walo and other PNG professional boxers face Australian, Thai, Indonesian and Philippine fighters at Sir John Guise Stadium in Port Moresby.
Walo is aiming to maintain his winning streak after defeating Indonesia’s Ramadan Weiru via a technical knockout in his most recent international bout in Port Moresby in December.
The 29-year old told The National on Tuesday that the McLaughlin bout was his ticket to a World Boxing Council-sanctioned fight.
“I’ve committed my whole life to boxing with a strong ambition to fight in a WBC-sanctioned bout,” Walo said.
“The McLaughlin fight is a must-win for me and I am confident.”
