WAMP Nga group of companies, the successful business arm of the three local level governments in the Western Highlands, is going into partnership with international trucking company Volvo trucks.
Following an expansion and change of management during the past 18 months under the leadership of Jim Maxwell as the new chief executive officer, the company went throug through two restructures.
During a media briefing, Andrew Tants, the general manager of corporate services of Wamp Nga Holdings Ltd, said yesterday the company “is now in the safe hands and growing”.
Tants said the executives of Volvo trucks in Europe are expected to arrive in Mt Hagen on April 15 to launch commercial motors and display some demo trucks.
He said that prior to this, Wamp Nga was the only solo distributor of the Western Star trucks in the country.
Tants said the company has sold many trucks to companies engaged in the mining and liquefied natural gas (LNG) projects in Hela.
In late 2011, the company expanded its businesses to Lae and Wabag.
“We also built a new workshop in Hides gas which is now servicing the big trucks and light vehicles,” he said.
Tants said on Monday, Wamp Nga will open a new branch at West Goroka for computers and auto parts.
Plans are in place to expand to Mendi and Port Moresby.
“Many negative things were said in the media about the company by few people with hidden motives, but as you can see, the company is in good hands and expanding,” he said.
He urged councillors and intending candidates for the upcoming council elections from Anglimp, Hagen Rural and Nebilyer local level governments not to drag politics into the company.
He added the company belongs to the people of these 3 LLGs and councillors, as custodians, must not use the company for their political gains.
