Wantoks dominate civil service pre-season

NATIONAL Capital District Public Servants Soccer Association champions Wantoks won their pre-season finals in the men’s and women’s divisions at Pacific Institute of Leadership and Governance (Pilag) Oval over the weekend.
Wantoks beat Rigo team Mataiaos 2-1 in the men’s final while their women’s team thrashed Locals 4-0.
The pre-season ran for six-weeks with 20 men’s and nine women’s teams taking part.
Musa defeated Pilag 3-2 in the men’s third-place playoff. Musa also repeated the same dosage against Valley Strikers in the women’s third-place playoff.
Association president Vonnie Eteaki Natto expressed satisfaction and hailed the teams for playing quality football, adding that it showed their competition was managed well. The season kicks off in two weeks.
“I commend all the clubs and match officials for their participation,” she said.
“We will announce those clubs that have been successful in their expression of interest for a place in the 16-team for A-League and 12-side for B-League.”
In the men’s division, Wantoks finished at the top of the table with 38 points followed by Nui Luk Baos (31), Taritos FC (31), Mataios (30), Valley Strikers (28), Musa (28), Pilag (27) and Kalibobo (25) to round out the top eight.
In the women’s division, Wantoks finished on top with 24-points followed by Valley Strikers (16), Locals (16) and Musa (9) to round out the top four.
