A CANDIDATE running for the Kairuku-Hiri open seat has urged the people to vote for leaders who have policies that will ensure vital government services are delivered promptly to them.
Peter Wap said this during his campaign rallies at Veifa’a village, Bereina station and Babiko last week.
Travelling by road into the area, Wap said he was moved to tears when he saw the poor state of the road leading into Veifa’a village.
“In many areas, there were no water, electricity and other vital services.
“These people have been suffering in silence for a very long time.
“If given the mandate, this will be a priority area for consideration,” Wap said during a gathering in Bereina last Saturday.
He said delivering basic government services could not be done alone.
“One has to work closely with the local level governments to get services delivered efficiently and on time.”
At his Babiko rally, the 20 chiefs made Wap the paramount chief and declared him as the winning candidate.
“For far too long, you have been deprived of vital government services.
“To bring these services to you, I will work alongside
your ward councillors.
“Your councillors live, eat and sleep with you. They know your problems and will tell me those problem. And as leaders, we will address these problems,” he said.
Wap is from Western Highlands and is married to a woman from Tubusereia village outside Port Moresby.
