HEALTH and HIV/AIDS Minister Sir Dr Puka Temu will launch a polio immunisation campaign on Monday in Morobe, Madang and Eastern Highlands.
He announced this as the Department of Health and partner agencies admitted that PNG had serious health issues after being polio-free for 18 years.
About 2900 health workers, vaccinators and volunteers have been mobilised to vaccinate almost 300,000 children under five.
This follows a confirmed case of polio in Morobe on June 21.
The virus is back in the country after PNG was declared polio-free in 2000. The campaign is the first in a series of immunisation campaigns for the next four months.
