Wararu wants polling probed

POLICE in East Sepik have been urged to speed up investigation into the polling discrepancies in Yangoru-Saussia.It has been alleged that 15 ballot boxes were found in the possession of an election official at a lodge in Wewak and another five at the home of another official on July 15.
Peter Wararu, who lost his seat narrowly to newcomer Richard Maru, claimed foul play.
Wararu said an examination on the ballot boxes by police, candidates, electoral commission lawyer and election manager Kila Ralai showed some used and blank ballot papers in two of the confiscated boxes at the polling site – Wewak Golf Club.
The matter was reported to police and provincial police commander Supt Joe Poma ordered counting to proceed while police investigated.
Superintendent Poma said the detectives were close to the process of questioning the alleged offenders.
