A YOUNG woman from Pangia, Southern Highlands, was killed in Port Moresby on Saturday night after returning from a concert.
Waigani Police Station commander Inspector Jerry Awa told The National that the incident happened around 11pm to midnight at Mumut Street in Morata One.
Awa said it was alleged that the woman was walking back home with her friends after attending a concert at Sir John Guise Stadium when they were attacked by a mob.
“It was alleged that the girl and her friends were confronted by a mob who wanted to snatch their belongings,” he said.
“She was stabbed and died on the spot.
“The suspects are known and we will be working closely with the Mumut Street community to make sure they are arrested.”
Awa urged parents and guardians to accompany their children to concerts or any activities at night.
“It is not safe for children, especially girls, to go along with their friends to concerts or parties in the night,” he said.
“Youths today are totally different – they can easily pick on girls and parents have to be careful.”
Meanwhile, Awa said that there was no report on a rape at Morata
on Friday as suggested on social media.
