Warning to keep children safe

PARENTS have been warned that they can be charged with negligence if they fail to look after their children.
Morobe police commander Supt Alex N’Drasal said the charge came under the Lukautim Pikinini Act.
“Some parents have been neglecting their children, making them vulnerable to all kinds of abuse,” N’Drasal said.
He said child sexual abuse was prevalent in the province.
Young girls are being lured by adults in the urban and rural communities.
“This is why I am calling on parents to take extra precautions on their children especially girls,” N’Drasal said.
“Children should not be allowed to roam around in the community without the parents’ consent.”
He said some schoolgirls were left to look for school fees, clothes and other needs.
This forces them to go to urban areas looking for money and exposing them to adults who can give them money.
“The welfare of young girls is very important. They must always be under the care of the parents,” he said.
A police reservist officer was charged by police last month for producing pornographic movies using a Grade Seven girl at a guest house in Lae.
N’Drasal said the girl told police she had been looking for school fees in the city.
