EXTRACTION of bore water for the PNG University of Natural Resources and Environment (PNGUNRE) at its main campus in Vudal, East New Britain, by New Britain Driller (NBD) has been regarded as a successful project.
“The water is fit for human consumption,” NBD operation manager James Davilin said.
Davilin said test drilling revealed viable quality and quantity of underground water and the university signed a contract with the drillers to upgrade its water supply at a cost of K484,524.
University vice-chancellor Prof Aisak Pue told The National in Kokopo that water had been a problem for many years and the university administration made it a priority to have the problem fixed before the end of this year.
“It is a big step for us for an additional water source as we have been struggling for a long time, and in the future when the population grows, I think we will be in need of additional bore water,” he said.
Davilin said pumping tests and analysis were carried out according to Australian standards. Tests confirmed that the groundwater was of high quality and suitable for potable town water supply.
