VILLAGES participating in the Wau Football Association competition have impressed president Shem Farrock, showing their interest to play in the town competition.
Farrock told The National last week that he was pleased to see clubs from Biangai villages showing interest to participate in the town competition.
He said clubs such as Yanga Pirates, of Wandumi village, had been consistently taking part in the competition.
The association has taken in new clubs like Huaye Mandik (Winima village), JR Koko (Kaindi village), Damtuk (Kapin village), Naja (Kobiak village) and Naiso (Sande Creek village).
“With villages taking part in the town competition, I’ve witnessed changes in Wau town,” Farrock said.
“Football brings together men, women and children from every corner of Wau town to socialise and strengethen relations.
“So I am discouraging youths, especially young boys from consuming paia wara (homebrew) and smoking marijuana.
“I’m asking them join any of the clubs and play football, instead of involving themselves in illegal activities.
“I am appealing to business houses in Wau to get involved in the community by helping develop football in the town.
“When football is played, players bring money to the business houses in Wau.
“So the support of business houses is needed to invest in the development of football.”
Farrock said the association was now preparing its minor premier clubs in both men’s and women’s to represent the association in the upcoming Papua New Guinea Football Association club championships.
The clubs that will represent Wau Football Association are last year’s minor premiers Hardrocks and Hiltop Neigbours in the men’s and women’s divisions respectively.
