THE Kumul Petroleum National Soccer League Northern Conference washout game between Toti City and the Morobe Wawens is set for today (3pm kick-off) at the Sir Ignatius Kilage Stadium in Lae.
Both teams have outstanding matches after being away for the Oceania Football Confederation Champions League.
Wawens official Kossie Java said despite losing most of their games, they were determined to give City a good run for their money. Recalling last week’s result, he said the team deserved the win because of the changes made to their lineup.
Java said the win had restored the confidence of their sponsor and supporters.
“We are hard at training fixing our errors, especially with our finishes,” Java said.
“That let us down, as we did not score more goals.
“Most of the players who played against Markham will be retained, with a few changes to be made depending on the outcome of the players who are carrying injuries.
“This game against City will not be easy and we need to put up a good challenge against the reigning champions.”
After returning from the Champions League, City have recorded five straight wins.
City are in second spot in the conference, with 15 points from five games — just three behind leaders Morobe United.
Toti — led by experienced campaigners in skipper Raymond Gunemba, Nigel Dabinyaba and Michael Foster — got a scare on Saturday when Besta PNG United kept them at bay until the last 20 minutes before breaking loose to score three goals to Besta’s two.
With the way City played catch-up football on Saturday, a repeat should not be entertained today as the Wawens are also looking for a win.
However, City coach Peter Gunemba is confident his charges will give the Wawens a good challenge.
