WITH the clock ticking away for O-League FC, Morobe Wawens are in desperate need of funds to play in the Champions League to be held in Lautoka, Fiji.
The team are currently without a sponsor and are appealing to business houses in the province for support.
The franchise are scheduled to leave for Fiji on Jan 31. Travel arrangements have been made but sponsorship remains problem.
Club founder Andrew Namuesh told The National that since the establishment of the club last year, the team had been playing without any sponsor backing. He said a number of sponsors had approached the team and promised to sponsor the franchise but nothing was forth coming.
“The team has had no sponsors since participating in the National Soccer League competition but my wife and I, with help from Peter Seske and Yaling Zampi, continue to hold the boys together. We are operating from our fortnightly salaries to support the team,” Namuesh said.
“We’ve qualified for the O-League but we still don’t have sponsors. We have two-and-a-half weeks left. We don’t know how we’ll to send the team across for the Champions League.
“Our players and officials have dug deep and sacrificed to get us to where we are now.”
