MOROBE Wawens have kicked off preparations for the upcoming Kumul Petroleum National Soccer League season with selection trials at the Lae Football Association Park.
The trials which started yesterday will end tomorrow before a squad is selected for the 2019-2020 campaign.
Franchise owner Andrew Namuesh told The National that the purpose of the trials was to identify new talent for the squad.
Namuesh said 60 Mamose players had being selected to participate in the trials.
The participating players are from Wewak, Madang, Bulolo, Finschhafen, Nawaeb, Huon Gulf and Lae.
“The team will be trimmed down to 23 players for the season,” he said. “The onus is on the players to perform as we do not want a biased selection or do not want to see the management interfering with the process. The selection must be on merit and whoever is selected will be in the final squad with the coaches having the final say on the players selected and not the management.”
Namuesh said some players from Wewak and Madang were yet to arrive for the trials.
“Training for the final squad will start once we know when the season gets underway,” he said.
