MOROBE Wawens have been praised for resuming their Kumul Petroleum National Soccer League (NSL) campaign on a winning note with a 3-1 victory against Morobe United on Saturday.
The round-10 win at Lae’s Sir Ignatius Kilage Stadium saw them move up a place to sixth in Papua New Guinea’s premier football competition.
Wawens vice-president Peter Seske told The National on Monday that they could have won by a bigger margin had it not been for poor execution.
“Our boys really dominated the match in terms of ball possession,” he said.
“We dictated play throughout the match which is something we haven’t done since the start of the season.
“All our players are fresh from the (four-month NSL) break and after a few changes during the transfer window, we’re building into a more competitive side.”
“We are only starting to have a feel of our new combinations but the players did well in our first game back.
“I’m confident that we will keep improving.
“Our next game is against Vitiaz United which will be a tough test for our players.
“We need to put in a solid performance if we really want to send a warning that we are here to compete and not just make up the numbers.
