We need to focus: Gunemba

IT is a must-win clash for Toti City when they face Vanuatu’s Malampa Revivors in their second pool match of the Oceania Football Confederation Champions League in New Caledonia today.
In an interview with City captain Raymond Gunemba, the Papua New Guinea international said they lacked concentration in their first game against Tahiti’s AS Tefana, especially in the first half.
The National Soccer League (NSL) defending champions trailed 2-0 in the first half but they stepped up after the break to score three goals and force a draw.
Gunemba, pictured, said they realised at half-time that they needed to step up to rescue something from the match.
Using their experience, City managed to equalise — thanks to Nigel Dabinyaba’s brace and Gunemba’s goal.
“The biggest thing is that we lacked match fitness and concentration in the first half,” Gunemba said from New Caledonia.
“I think leading up to the OFC Champions League, we should have played at least two or three NSL games.
“We only played one NSL game but that should not be an excuse.
“Most of the men in the team have played together for a while now, so we should be working harder to win our two remaining pool games.
“We thank God that we fought back. We could have lost but thankfully, we managed to force a draw.
“Against Malampa, it’s a must-win game for us.
“So we will have to give everything we have to grab the three points. We have faith and trust in God that nothing is impossible.”
This is City’s fourth appearance at the Champions League.
