We should change our national pledge

Letters

I AM proposing an amendment to our national pledge.
It seems the pledge is the root cause of our children and youths’ reckless behaviour.
In the current pledge, we say: We the people of Papua New Guinea, pledge ourselves, united in one nation. We pay homage to our cultural heritage the source of our strength. We pledge to build a democratic society based on justice, equality, respect and prosperity for our people. We pledge to stand together as one people, one nation, one country. God bless Papua New Guinea.
We should delete “cultural heritage” and replace it with “Heavenly Father”.
Paying homage to our cultural heritage is a form of worshipping Satan and its worldly cultures, which is a curse to the nation.
From observations, one would have realised that most of our children are reckless and disobedient.
They go into the workforce and this same manifestation is seen through some form of corruption.
The deterioration in law and order is evident throughout Papua New Guinea.
Corruption is rife in the public service.
The authorities should seriously consider this and change the pledge.
