We want our peace back

Letters

BISINI Parade, Boroko, a once safe and quiet neighbourhood has turned into a squatter’s paradise.
Scrutineers and supporters of candidates have converged on this street taking over our front yards and public sidewalks.
The Electoral Commission has nominated the Rita Flynn complex for the counting of Moresby South and NCD Regional seats.
Bisini Parade and Geregere Avenue have been inundated with make shift tents with influx of strangers to our neighbourhood.
The delayed start of counting, has put undue stress on residents.
We protest that it is not safe outside our fences as strangers have squatted at our door steps.
Our women and girls need accompaniment as they feel unsafe outside their own homes.
We are now locking our gates and premises during the day for security – we didn’t have to do this before.
We want counting completed swiftly.
We need police presence regularly as petty crimes are now a regular occurrence with pickpockets stealing phones and opportunists breaking into parked vehicles.
Also, there have been some heated scuffles by disgruntled supporters disturbing the peace.
Finally, this suburb is not equipped with public toilets and loiters are using our fences and nearby drains to relieve themselves, posing a health risk.
