‘Wear red, black, gold’

NATIONAL Capital District Governor Powes Parkop wants city dwellers to dress in red, black and gold on Thursday for the country’s 46th Independence Day Celebrations.
“The NCD Commission has dressed the city’s street light poles along selected major roads with the national flags,” he said.
Parkop, who also municipal authority chairman, said the city was ready to commemorate the nation’s Independence, despite the limitation and challenges in light of the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
“We must be reminded to remain united as one city, one people, with one future to celebrate our resilience, celebrate our pride and significance of our national sovereignty of our city of 1,000 tribes,” Parkop said.
“As we commemorate our anniversary, I urge all residents and the commercial property owners throughout the city to dress their premises with PNG flags and also in red, black and gold colours.
“We will make the statement of patriotism that will echo throughout the length and breadth of this land, igniting inspiration, aspiration, peace and unity amongst our people.”
