SOME areas of the country received rain last weekend with more to be expected in the coming months, according to the National Weather Service
Director Samuel Maiha said the monsoon rain should be expected at this time of the year.
“It was raining almost in every part of Western, Gulf, National Capital District, and Bougainville that had severe dry weather, except parts of Central and eastern Milne Bay Islands over the weekend,” Maiha said.
He told The National the rain had caused the unusual hot condition to “escape”, but might re-emerge when the monsoon season ended in April.
Maiha said some rain was expected in December, January, February and March.
“On Friday, it was raining in almost every part of those provinces that had dry weather – except Central and eastern Milne Bay,” he said.
“The unusual hot condition will go away within this week because it is raining. Some parts of Western had received a huge amount of rain – 100 millimetre – as well as Oro and Madang over the weekend,” he said.
Waetang Kago, the head teacher of Taeme Primary School in South Fly district, Western, said there was a downpour last weekend.
