Weather office to start cadet training

THE National Weather Service will launch its initial cadet training programme on Monday and will run for 10 weeks, director Samuel Maiha, says.
The top 30 students were selected from 400 early this month.
Students will be trained in meteorology, climatology, information technology and communications and fisheries and oceans before being be given a chance to apply for work training in PNG and overseas.
Maiha said they would be trained for the areas of automatic instrumentation specialist and future public policy staff of the national weather office.
He said the training would be useful with the improved weather and climate services in different sectors.
Maiha said the training would be done by specialist and professors from universities in the likes of PNG, and oversea under donor partners.
