Wellington Phoenix to assess Papua New Guinea striker Semmy

FOLLOWING the departure of Fijian international Roy Krishna, Wellington Phoenix have provided an opportunity for another Oceania star to stake his claim for a professional contract.
Stuff can confirm that Papua New Guinea striker Tommy Semmy will spend the week on trial at the A-League club in an attempt to earn a spot on the 23-man roster.
The 24-year-old Paua New Guinean has scored 17 goals in 31 games across two seasons for ISPS Handa Premiership club Hamilton Wanderers in New Zealand, where he is coached by former Phoenix boss Ricki Herbert.
Semmy is one of seven trialists currently training with the first team, who commenced pre-season training last week.
The Phoenix have just two import spots up for grabs, following last week’s signing of English striker David Ball.
