MOROBE Governor Luther Wenge wants the Government to address the Bougainville issue now rather than prolonging it.
Wenge told Parliament on Tuesday that the constitutional amendment was clear that both PNG and Bougainville governments should discuss the Bougainville Peace Agreement.
“Bougainvilleans have already decided by 97 per cent that they want independence from PNG,” he said.
He told Prime Minister James Marape to “make a decision now to get parliament to discuss this issue and let’s put the matter to rest”.
Wenge said after the Bougainville referendum, both governments should hold talks.
He said the majority of the Bougainville people had already decided to be granted independence from PNG. “The constitutional amendment is for the government. Don’t run away (from it),” he said.
He said 20,000 people had died in Bougainville because of the crisis and the people should not continue to die “because we are prolonging the implementation of the constitution”.
