WEST Sepik needs major projects to boost social-economic development, a landowner representative says.
Kevin Muriki is the director of Paradise Tuna Corporation Limited which comes under the Amanab Timber Landowners’ Association company.
He was responding to a statement by the West Sepik Governor Tony Wouwou to support a major fisheries project in the province.
“The province has been home to timber production but there are other potentials in the province that we need to explore like fisheries and agriculture as well.”
Muriki said the projects would bring more employment opportunities especially for youths.
“They will also attract a lot of little spin-off businesses that can benefit locals in the province,” Muriki said.
Muriki said  such projects could also generate more revenue for the province.
“And can help to improve the already established social services like health, education, water, electricity and road infrastructures in the province,” he said.
Muriki said these would only be achieved if the government, provincial authorities, landowners and stakeholders worked together.
He said they were looking forward to Wouwou driving development in the province to benefit the people.
