THREE deaths occurred in Western soon after the independence anniversary weekend.
One was related to sorcery and in another case two bodies were found floating in river, Kiunga police station commander Chief Insp Silva Sika said.
It was not known whether the two people found in the river were connected.
Sika said a person was killed on Tuesday. His attacker believed he was involved in the death of a villager from Emity in Balimo.
“I have instructed police personals from Balimo Station to go and arrest the suspect and bring him in for questioning,” Sika said.
He said the villagers wanted to follow their own customary way of dealing with the suspect, but the community leaders were warned that it was now a police case.
“I warned the leaders that they have to hand over the suspect and refrain from taking the law into their own hands.”
Sika said in another incident two bodies, one female and a male, were seen floating on the Fly River in Obo in the Middle Fly electorate by Ok Tedi Mining Ltd employees who were on a ship.
“The matter was reported to me and I have requested the OTML to support me with logistics to establish the cause of the deaths.”
Sika said the cause of death wasyet to be established as transportation and movement in the province was extremely difficult.
