What will Bougainville achieve in five years?

Letters

MONTHS have passed since the people of Bougainville elected President Ishmael Toroama as their leader.
We respect that and we have to live with that choice for the next five years.
However, I have doubt that our president will be able to engage in high-level discussions with investors and international partners.
We need someone who can talk and negotiate well. I have seen and heard leaders say that Toroama is someone who cannot do that.
I support him in his goals of achieving law and order and weeding out corruption, as well as the efforts to gain independence.
However, I am not sure about what we are going to achieve in the next five years.
We need someone who can stand at Waigani and be firm on what he wants for the good of his people and not be pushed around by Waigani.
I hope the president can prove me wrong.
I am still optimistic and hopeful that he can get the job done.

  • Please give him your support and advice. Things does not happen overnight. He cannot do everything by himself. He needs good, strong, advisors to bring Bougainville forward. It’s all about teamwork.

  • Ishmael is not to be underestimated. He is the man for the job and he will get it done better than anybody else. I have known him for well over 25 years now and know he has all of the attribues that are required to get the job done including being able to engage in high-level discussions with investors and international partners.

Just give him him the chance and you will see. Work with him and be unified for the one cause.
