While revising policy, improve economy too

Letters

THE 50 per cent cut to the Tuition Fee Free (TFF) funding for 2020 is the hottest issue right now around the country.
Firstly, I’d like to acknowledge the great effort the government has embarked on to control our economy, which has drastically depreciated due to many wrongdoings of the past government.
Having said that, let’s put into perspective that not all done was wrong.
There are many good things the previous government did and one of them was the TFF policy.
I commend the previous government for that.
Successive governments had always used education as a platform to win elections and form governments.
Education had always been the scapegoat.
Education will always remain as the most important aspect of life.
Without it life will not revolve.
The TFF policy has played a significant role in the education of all our children for the past five years.
Every child has been given a chance to be educated.
Enrollment has increased and only few have roamed the streets due to other reasons.
With the introduction of school fees next year, parents will again work hard to look for fees to put their children in school.
I appreciate the idea of Prime Minister James Marape to help with tertiary fees while subsidising elementary to secondary education.
Not all children will reach tertiary level with this bottle neck Education system.
Giving every child the chance to get primary and secondary education is a foundation for every future citizen of this country.
That’s where the money should be put so every citizen benefit.
You will touch the heart of every parents regardless of any circumstances.
Not every citizen will benefit at the tertiary level.
Poverty is rapidly creeping into every household and life is becoming very difficult for everyone.
I’m willing to pay but what has the government done to increase the value of our kina.
Every small business around the country are also winding down due to the poor economy situation.
How can simple village people compete in such situation when our economy looks gloomy?
The government should be realistic with its decision and have a balance for a win-win situation for everyone. Full TFF should be paid while maintaining the current decision to have tertiary education on the Higher Education Loan Programme (Help).
