WHO owns the Hotune Brick Factory?
Unggai-Bena MP Benny Allen says the factory is part of the business arm of the district development authority (DDA) and will complement his “Rausim Kunai” scheme.
At the launching of the factory in February 2017, the MP said that the business was owned by the people of Unggai-Bena of which the DDA owns 40 per cent and the resource owners 60 per cent.
Since its establishment 10 years ago, the people are not aware of any dividends paid to the DDA or the local resources owners.
It has been operating as a private business.
From Investment Promotion Authority’s records, this business is not registered as a company but as a business name solely owned by the managing director.
With election approaching, the details of this business venture must be made public before election.
It is a multi-million Kina project and the people of Unggai-Bena have a right to know the true beneficiaries of this project.
