WHO rep happy with coverage of polio vaccination in EHP

The fourth and final round of polio vaccination has ended with excellent results in the Eastern Highlands, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO).
WHO Representative Richard Acton, who was the team leader of the polio vaccination campaign in the province, said he was satisfied with the coverage of the campaign in the eight districts of the province.
“We have really performed, worked as a team and achieved our goals in containing and capturing our target of vaccinating over 260,000 children under the age of 15 in the province,” he said.
“The results are significant and everyone that participated should be commended for a job well done.”
He said most of the areas in the eight districts of the province were served, including those accessible only by air.
“I am overwhelmed and satisfied with the results,” Acton said.
“I must urge you all to work with and support the public health services, so that risks of the outbreak of diseases whether it be polio, measles, TB, typhoid or any other diseases can be prevented.”
He thanked WHO, United Nations Children’s Fund, Eastern Highlands Provincial Health Authority, Goroka Provincial Hospital, Institute of Medical Research, Marie Stopes, Church Health Services, Touching the Untouchables and health workers and volunteers who worked in rounds one, two, three and four of the polio vaccination campaign in the past seven months.
