Widodo to arrive today

INDONESIAN President Joko Widodo will arrive in Port Moresby today for a one-day State visit.
Widodo is expected to meet with Prime Minister James Marape and selected ministers for bi-lateral talks and pay his respects to the Governor-General Sir Bob Dadae.
The two leaders are expected to discuss trade and investment, the common border for which the 2013 agreement is due for review this year and joint air services agreement.
Indonesian airline, Citilink made its inaugural flight to Port Moresby on Sunday and it is expected the airline may begin scheduled flights once a joint air service agreement is in place.
High level talks with PNG and Indonesian business heads are also expected to be part of Widodo’s schedule.
Indonesia is the world’s seventh largest economy with a gross domestic product of US$1.9 billion (about K6.8 billion).
Its military, economy and population of 270 million easily dwarfs PNG.
Widodo was last here in 2018 at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Leaders Summit.
His visit reciprocates Marape’s visit to Indonesia last year.
Widodo is expected to spend eight hours in Port Moresby, on arrival from Australia.
