A VICTIM has asked a district court in Lae to withdraw her domestic violence case against her husband.
Norman Tomar from Banz’s Kondol village in Jiwaka appeared before Magistrate Jacinta Doa on a domestic violence charge.
The court noted that the complainant Joycelyn Sataro, who is his wife, asked to withdraw the case against her husband but asked the court to prevent him from repeating the offence.
The reasons for the withdrawal were that Sataro wanted to sort their marital problems out at the community level and that her husband Tomar was the family’s sole source of support.
Tomar was released from police custody and was warned by the court not to reoffend. “Since the complainant is here and verbally asked for withdrawal of the case I will withdraw it and have you released from police custody, now go and solve it at a community level and do not do that again,” he said.
“You are restricted from causing any harm or domestic violence to the victim for six month, I advise the victim to apply for an interpersonal protective order (IPO) after six months.”
According to police records, Tomar assaulted his wife on, July 24 after accusing her of having affairs while he was away in Manus for work.
The court was told that Tomar had beaten Sataro on separate occasions from the Sunday to Wed, July 27 when he followed her to Klimki Street on Boundary Road.
