A WOMAN, accused of attempting to kill her husband’s second wife for not helping her during her father’s death last year, was committed to the National Court for trial yesterday by the Lae Committal Court.
Linda Mathias, 38, from Katanga village in Menyamya, Morobe appeared before Magistrate Pious Tapil charged with attempted murder of Betho Mathias.
Magistrate Tapil ruled that evidence presented in court was sufficient for a trial.
The medical report indicated knife wounds sustained by Betho.
Linda Mathias told the court that she was mad at her husband and argued with him but Betho intercepted and provoked the incident.
However, Magistrate Tapil told Linda that a wrong could not be used to correct another wrong.
The matter was adjourned to July 6 for mention.
Police reports indicated that on Aug 2, 2019 at around 6am, Linda carried a bush knife and headed for Betho’s house.
Betho was cooking in the kitchen at Katanga village.
Linda approached her with the knife and allegedly chopped her left hand.
Betho was shocked and grabbed Linda and they wrestled out of the kitchen.
It was alleged that Betho’s bone and veins were cut as a result of the attack and bleed heavily.
Police alleged that Linda managed to free herself from the wrestling and allegedly slashed Betho on the left leg.
The cut was deep so Betho fell unconscious on the ground.
Another attempt by Linda allegedly aimed at the neck was stopped by her husband.
Betho, after medical attention reported the matter to police.
