HELA Wigmen coach Seth Rip says discipline will be a key focus for his men to cement the third spot for the remainder of the Digicel Cup season.
The late inclusion of SP Hunters forward Samuel Yegip in the Wigmen camp has boosted the 2020 champions’ campaign for another premiership.
Rip said he was satisfied with his side’s 22-12 win over the fifth-placed Enga Mioks on Sunday.
“Our boys played well against Mioks especially the forwards,” he said.
“We will need to work on what needs to be improved during the week to prepare for our game against Port Moresby Vipers.
“We have a quality team with great experience.
“But at this stage, I think discipline is crucial for us and how we handle ourselves moving forward.”
The third-placed Wigmen and Rabaul Gurias (second) have 20 points apiece after round 13 of the country’s premier rugby league competition.
The Kroton sponsored-side have held on to the third spot since round nine, and Rip will be banking on former Hunters trio Solomon Pokari, Patrick Morea and Norman Brown as well as Yegip and Valentine Culligan.
Pokari and Morea’s input in the Wigmen attack has seen an impressive turnaround for the Hela franchise with the duo shaping up to have a thrilling finals outing.
Rip said the Wigmen had the potential to beat the Vipers, Mendi Muruks, Lae Tigers and Kimbe Cutters in their remaining matches of the regular season.
“We’re aiming to maintain our current position on the ladder and finish the regular season on high note,” he said.
“We’ll need to at least win the last four games to vie for the minor premiership and major title,” he said following their win over the Mioks.
