KEVIN Willie believes in the power of music to relay important messages such as the Word of God to the people.
He formed the Crystal City band focusing on gospel music in Lae just for that. His target are the young people who he believes need to know more about the Bible and their Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
Kevin, 45, is from Tufi in Northern and Wampar in Morobe and is married to a woman from Morobe.
He is a self-taught musician, self-employed and comes from a Christian family who support what he is doing.
“They need to be the change they want to have and become the mouthpiece of God to other people. The music we produce through the PL recording studio is a way to spread the word of God.”
He used to produce only rock music.
“But along the way, God changed my mind and I switched from rock to gospel music. I invited young boys to get their minds occupied (on Christian values) so that they do not get involved in bad habits.”

The band before recording their singles has been taking part in crusades in the districts of Lae and Markham to spread God’s messages.
The group has recorded 10 songs with the PL Studios in Lae. One is titled Kumul blo PNG which is a dedication to the country’s founding fathers who guided PNG to Independence on Sept 15, 1975.
The lyrics thanked the founding fathers for taking over the country from the colonial administrators.
The group is determined to continue spreading the Gospel to the people and show young ones through music that there is hope when one let’s Jesus Christ be one’s Saviour.
“Where we have come from has unfolded and we know about it. But where we are heading to in future is unknown and yet to be discovered. Only God the Father Almighty knows all that – our destiny. That is why we have to worship Him in every way we can.”
The gospel songs are now playing on the airwaves to challenge listeners especially young Christians to stay away from illegal activities and bad habits.
Willie sees the band in its first two years growing from strength to strength.
The bank members come from different denominations but have a common goal to spread the gospel. They cannot do it from the pulpit but they are doing through music.
They believe in what the Bible says (Matthew 24: 14) that the gospel will be preached to all nations and then the end will come.
Willie urged people to turn to God not only in their time of need but all the time.
Psalm 98: 1-8: Oh sing to the Lord a new song, for he has done marvellous things. His right hand and his holy arm have worked salvation for him. The Lord has made known his salvation. He has revealed his righteousness in the sight of the nations. He has remembered his steadfast love and faithfulness to the house of Israel. All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God. Make a joyful noise to the Lord. All the earth, break forth into joyous song and sing praises.”
