The Siassi local level government-funded fisheries plant at Aramot village on Siassi Island has been sitting idle with its ice-making plant and generator since it was built in 2007.
The facility was shut down due to mismanagement.
It is an asset to the LLG to serve the fishermen from Aromot, Aronai, Tuam, Malai and Mandok islands as well as the Siassi main island.
The fishermen from these islands formed a fishing group called Atuma Fisheries Co-operative.
Now that the facility is unused, it has affected income-generation opportunities for the islanders.
