This is the deteriorating state of learning and lodging facilities for students attending Siassi Lutheran High School in Morobe.
It concerns MP Kobby Bomario who has questioned how the government’s tuition fee free education (TFF) policy is being used. The TFF caters for three portions – administration, curriculum and facilities. And yet, more than 200 students from seven Umboi Islands attending this school are sleeping in dormitories and going to classrooms unfit for human habitation.
It is anybody’s guess how much these rotten facilities have corrupted the minds of the young people who have been forced to live there.
Recently, a four-in-one double classroom was built as part of the secondary schools quality infrastructure programme (SSQIP). Bomario helped with the provision of 20 laptops for ICT classes subject for students.
Bomario sees education as the way forward, but not when it is like this.
Even Prime Minister Peter O’Neill was saddened by the state of the facilities at this school and gave K300,000 to help.
