WEST New Britons have been encouraged to consider tourism as a community responsibility and an opportunity to benefit from.
This was the message from WNB Division of Culture and Tourism promotion and marketing officer Nelson Senget during an awareness in Kimbe recently.
Senget said tourism was everyone’s business as it was an industry that many areas of the community and encouraged people to be involved in the industry.
Senget said that WNB administration was focusing on domestic tourism.
“We are encouraging our locals to first look after our local visitors from other provinces visiting our province and with this experience in terms of hospitality and other tourism services for our domestic visitors, I believe they will learn and can be able to provide best and better tourism services to our international tourists,” he said.
“Most of the times we tend to focus more on international tourists and forget about our very own people, in order to provide best tourism services to these visitors we must first learn to provide best tourism services for our own local tourists.”
He said Kimbe was the face of West New Britain and encouraged everyone to keep the town clean to ensure a clean and pleasant environment.
Senget urged people to think creatively and initiate things that could involve tourism business.
“Before visitors visit other places in the province they will have to come through Kimbe and therefore the first impression is important because when they see how we organise ourselves and how we keep our town clean they will we are ready and welcoming and we will have more tourists coming into our beautiful province,” he said.
