YOUTHS in West New Britain have been warned by police to stop threatening PMV drivers and passengers.

Provincial Police Commander Samson Siguyaru said in Kimbe some youths were in the habit of threatening bus drivers and passengers.

Sometimes they demanded that they use the buses to carry out robberies.

Siguyaru said the thugs travelled in the buses as passengers then held up the drivers and passengers while on the road.

He has launched a campaign on radio urging PMV drivers, owners and passengers to report these youths to police.

He said the trend began two months ago.

He deployed police officers to the Gigo Laleki and Morokea, along the road leading to Hoskins Airport.

Siguyaru said regular road checks had been conducted in the past two months which had somehow decreased the criminal activities.

More than 20 youths in the province had also asked to meet with him, provincial administration officials and Governor Sasindran Muthuvel.

This follows the death of well-known criminal Kito Aso who was shot recently.

Siguyaru said the meeting would be held once the governor returned to the province from his other engagements.
