THE Southern Conference of the Women’s National Soccer League (WNSL) ended at Papua New Guinea Football Stadium in Port Moresby on Saturday, with winners Genesis and runners-up Hekari United qualifying for next Saturday’s semifinals in Lae.
Five Port Moresby teams and a Central side made up the conference as they competed over 10 rounds of the regular season, which saw many upcoming footballers showcasing their skills.
But all these were made possible through the hard work of the PNG Football Association (PNGFA), WNSL interim standing committee and sponsors — including the competition’s communications partner bmobile.
To recognise team and individual performances, PNGFA and bmobile presented awards following the main match on Saturday.
As part of bmobile’s sponsorship, the best goalkeeper and the top goal scorer received a Tab Grand 6 tablet along with trophies from PNGFA.
The golden glove was given to Port Moresby Academy goalkeeper Fiona Ben while Hekari United skipper Marie Kaipu, scored 29 goals in the regular season, scooped the golden boot.
The fair play award was given to Central team Amoana who remained spirited all season despite finishing their campaign as cellar dwellers.
Genesis forward Rumona Morris was named as the most valuable player while Olivia Forova received the outstanding match official award.
