A Central woman charged with murder denied allegations that she killed her husband who was looking for food at home in 2015.
Theresa Kamo Mathew, from Tapini in Goilala district, said she did not kill her husband Kassman Kamo on Nov 9, 2015, at Konedobu in Port Moresby.
Mathew, who was partly deaf, said she understood the brief facts and allegations made against her but denied the charge of murder.
Justice Paniel Mogish accepted Mathew’s not guilty plea and will conduct a trial today.
The State alleged that on Nov 9, 2015, Kamo had arrived home from work hungry and asked his two daughters for food.
His daughters told him that there was no food in the house because Mathew had used the money for the food to buy homebrew. Kamo became angry and attacked Mathew.
Kamo was an asthmatic and he was trying to regain his breath under a breadfruit tree when Mathew approached cut his face with a knife, police said. She then stabbed Kamo on the left side of his chest.
Kamo ran towards the house, collapsed in front of his daughters and died.
The State will call one of Kamo’s daughters as witness today.
