FOUNDER of the now closed Pacifika Women’s Network (PWN) incubation centre in Port Moresby Ruth Undi has decided to stop her incubation business.
A tearful Undi in a press conference, urged the Government to assist the 90 women who once sold at the centre.
“I have invested K500,000 of my own money into the trade centre and most times, I cover for the women’s rentals,” she said.
“It is a sad day. I have my other business but supporting women has always been my passion.
“Giving a woman her own dream gives me satisfaction.”
The centre was closed last month due to outstanding rentals owed to property owner Pacific Palms Property.
PWN offers small spaces to women in small medium enterprises to rent.
“I am a struggling business women, but for me I really believe in these women,” Undi said.
“I can no longer help the women.
“I want the country and the Government to know that these women need help. The trade centre concept is now closed but the network is still active and working through collection of data, organising meet and greet events, participate in women’s forums and other networking activities.”
Undi urged women to have a strong drive in starting businesses.
PWN trade centre was an outlet for micro, small and medium enterprises sector for women to showcase their products and services. It started with four major categories (food, textiles, arts and craft and health and beauty) for women business owners and aspiring women entrepreneurs.
Undie saw that women struggled to find a place to do business as most places had high rentals.
The centre was closed two times this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

  • They should have a strong business case to seek soft loans from the government so they are able to repay loan and become self sustainable. Continuous free handouts to man or women groups should be done away with.
