A WOMAN from Pindiu, Finschhafen in Morobe, was admitted at the Angau Memorial Hospital after she was hit by a bus last Friday.

Angry by-standers who witnessed the accident stoned the PMV bus before burning it.

Eyewitness Jacob Korond said the woman and three others were crossing the road at the Hunter bus stop when she was hit.

“She did not see the on-coming vehicle. Her view was obstructed by another vehicle that was parked beside the road,” Korond said.

“She fell down and the bus ran over her.”

The bus driver after realising that he had hit the woman tried to speed off. But the people stoned its windscreen forcing the driver to swerve towards a drain. They later set it on fire.

Korond said the driver and his assistant fled leaving the vehicle behind.

Lae police operations commander Fred Kaiwa said police arrived when the bus was already on fire.

Kaiwa said the victim was admitted at the hospital but he is yet to be briefed about her latest condition.
