FORMER National Council of Women president Susan Setae is the leader of the women’s wing of the Triumph Heritage Empowerment Party.
Setae joins another former National Council of Women president and now vice-president of the T.H.E Party, Buntabun Brown.
It is now the only political party that has a wing for women, youths, non-governmental organisation and the disabled.
Setae said she was honoured at being appointed to lead the women’s wing of the party because of the respect, charisma and potential of party leader, Don Polye, the executives and because its policies recognised women and marginalised groups.
She said it was now time for parties to involve women in executive positions and T.H.E Party was one that had polices to involve women.
“If we are to make a difference in the political arena of this nation then the way forward is to create a women’s wing within political parties,” she said.
Setae said she wanted to see more women involved in politics to address some pressing issues facing the country such as violence against women.
child abuse, sexual exploitation and infant mortality.
Welcoming Setae, Buntabun said becoming involved in a party as executives “is the way forward for women”.
She said women could make a difference by contributing to party policies and directing the party to make informed decision that would contribute to the development of the nation.
