A MOTHER of six was ordered by a court to pay a K250 court fine to another woman whom she assaulted during an argument while under the influence of alcohol in Lae last month.
Leah Jerry, from Chimbu, and a resident of Kamkumung, was fined by the Lae District Court after she pleaded guilty before magistrate Edward Kupo on Wednesday.
The court heard that the complainant, Carolyn Wilson, was a tenant at Jerry’s rental property in a settlement in Kamkumung.
Police reports indicated that on Sept 17, Wilson had an argument with her daughter, who lived with Jerry.
Wilson assaulted her daughter who sought help from Jerry.
Jerry then attacked Wilson.
Wilson was also alleged to have threatened Jerry by having her evicted.
Jerry submitted that she was angry when the complainant threatened her and assaulted her.
The court ordered her K300 bail be refunded and K250 be paid as compensation to the victim.
Failure to pay will result in jail time.
“Failure to comply with those orders will result in a two-month jail term,” Kupo said.
