A 20-YEAR-OLD woman was found raped and murdered in a bush in Astrolabe Bay’s Huyau village in Raicoast on April 3.
Rachel Andrew’s decomposing body was found in a bush by villagers about three days after the murder.
Madang commander Acting Superintendent Mazuc Rubiang said police had identified two suspects responsible for the killing.
He advised the two to surrender as their identities were known.
Rubiang said Rachel was kidnapped and taken to a garden where she was raped and killed.
“She was on a bus travelling from Asas village along the Usino/Walium Highway to Madang town,” he said.
“For unknown reason, she got off the bus and walked for several kilometres in a bush track and reached Huyau village.
“Before arriving at Ato village, she was kidnapped and dragged into a bush off the highway to Huyau village and to a garden where she was raped and murdered.”
Rubiang said CID investigators investigated the crime scene and later contacted a medical staff from Modilon Hospital to inspect the scene before Rachel’s body was removed to the hospital.
He reiterated his advice to the murder suspects: “We have your names and it is only a matter of time the law will catch up with you. Surrender is the best alternative.
“Men must stop seeing and treating women as sex objects.
“They are mothers or potential mothers of our children and future.”
Rubiang said police would ensure that the two suspects were caught and appealed to Rachel’s family to cooperate with the police by giving their statement to help fast track investigations.
