A Lae District Court fined a 23-year-old woman for unlawful assault yesterday.
Pamela Simon, from Laiagam’s Yongi village in Enga, appeared before Magistrate Jacinta Doa and was ordered to pay a court fine of K300 and a compensation of K1,000 to the victim for the charge.
The court noted that Pamela was married, unemployed and had no prior convictions and made the ruling after she pleaded guilty before the court.
Doa warned and cautioned Pamela saying violence was a serious offence, even though the defendant and victim could sort it outside the court, the law must take its course to prevent such behaviour.
“The court will forfeit the K300 fine from your bail money and you have to pay your K1000 compensation to the victim within 48 hours or in default three months imprisonment.
“The fact that this is a recorded case in a court, we cannot tolerate violence, even if you can sort this outside of the court, the law has to play its part, take this as a warning and don’t commit the same offence again,” Doa said.
The court heard that on June 23 around 10am at a Bingo Area in East Taraka, Lae, Pamela armed with a timber, approached Raylene Paul and swung the timber by surprise that hit the her forehead.
She collapsed to the ground, causing her to bleed heavily.
It was alleged that Pamela suspected that Raylene spoke to her husband that made her to commit the assault.
